Lamha does it again!

The Pakistani feature film Lamha (Seedlings) — which has already won the Best Picture (Audience Choice) Award  at the New York City International Film Festival  (NYCIFF) with Aamina Sheikh being crowned as the Best Actress in a Leading Role — continues to travel the world with its screening in two more international film festivals.

The film will have its premiere at the South Asian Film Festival and later at Delhi International Film Festival.

The film that went global with its premiere at the NYCIFF 2012, will have its Canadian Premiere in Vancouver at the South Asian Film Festival (SAFF) of Canada on November 2, 2012.

"Lamha has, with good reason, been one of the most anticipated Pakistani films of 2012. The three leads — Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, and Gohar Rasheed — play off one another in a dazzling dance of anger, disappointed love, and redemption. A stunning debut!" says Hannah Fisher, the director of SAFF.

The film festival, presenting a collection of feature films, short films, documentaries and animated films, has high profile celebrities in its guest list including veteran Indian actor Jaya Bachchan and award winning Indian poet and film-maker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. The festival that started on October 21 will continue till November 5, 2012.

But that's not it. Bodhicitta Works' production, Lamha, is set to fly high with its next stop in the Delhi International Film Festival, which will be held from December 21 to 22, 2012.

"Lamha was only possible due to the hard work and tenacious commitment of its cast and crew," says Meher Jaffri, founder of the production house Bodhicitta Works while talking about the journey behind her film.

Jaffri believes that independent films in Pakistan are grossly under financed and undervalued. She advises aspiring directors, producers, script writers and actors to "go out there and take the plunge. This experience will be life changing and teach you a great deal about the film business."

"It is up to us to bring about the revival of Pakistani cinema. And I believe we can do it!" she adds.

Pakistani movie BOL secures three awards in London Asian Film Festival

London: Pakistan’s film Bol has secured three awards in the The London Asian Film Festival at the prestigious BAFTA building. Bol film, Humaima Malik, and Amer Kashmiri were declared winner of the different categories.

The 14th London Asian Film Festival came to a close recently with the final awards ceremony.  The cinema of Pakistan was represented at the festival with a screening of Bol, a film which focuses on gender discrimination.

The film’s lead actress Humaima Malik told media why she felt it was important for Pakistani cinema to be represented at the festival: “Bol is an art piece from my country so it feels great to represent my cinema and my country. It’s a very meaningful film. There’s no ‘hulla gulla’ and it features the real experiences of women. It’s an important film because the subject is so powerful and it’s been nominated in so many different countries for so many awards.

“We have seven nominations today. It’s not about winning. It’s just about being represented amongst so many people and great films. All the team is here. It feels great. I’m crossing my fingers. I get to see a lot of good work here too from other countries, she said.

Accepting the ‘Best Film’ award for Bol, the film’s line producer Fatima Khan said: “I would like to dedicate this award to the youth of Pakistan. They are very talented people who are working relentlessly to promote a very positive image of Pakistan.”
