SUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE WORLD RECORD FOR MOST PEOPLE SINGING PAKISTAN’s NATIONAL ANTHEM

August 13, 2011

9:30 PM: Almost everything was all-set for the National Anthem Singing Event, to be started in a couple of hours at the DHA Hockey Stadium Karachi. Just the participants were awaited.

10:15 PM: Heavy rains accompanied with storm. Though it lasted for not more than 10 minutes, but it made sure the stage is completely broken, the sound systems are fully drenched and grounded, lighting and electricity is completely turned off…

10:30 PM: Everything in DHA Hockey Stadium Karachi was wet and down, except the volunteer and participants’ spirits that were as high as ever. Volunteers, organizers, senior citizens, ladies and children – everyone decided and started to rebuilt everything from the scratch.

11:30 PM: New sound system was arranged and installed at the new stage and new generators were connected, meanwhile the 250-feet long Pakistan Flag arrived at the ground.

August 14, 2011

12:00 Night: The National Anthem of Pakistan was rehearsed, with the available crowd of 1,500 Pakistanis.

12:15 AM: Almost an additional crowd of more than 3,500 was still required before the cut-off time of 1:00 AM, to break the earlier record of 5,247 participants. Most of the expected participants either were stuck in traffic, or returned to homes due to rains and storm.

12:25 AM: Everyone in the crowd was requested to text, call, facebook and tweet everyone they knew. People went to neighborhood restaurants, shops, houses, apartments and streets – convincing others to join in… The crowd was determined not to leave before the previous record breaks.

12:30 AM: Almost 2,500 was the additional required number.

12:50 AM: The official count then was 5,580… much more than it was required to break the previous record. People were still joining in.

1:00 AM: There was a power-cut, but 5,885 Pakistanis sang the National Anthem of Islamic Republic of Pakistan with their cellphone lights on.

1:10 AM: Pakistan claimed to achieve the Guinness World Record of Most People Singing the National Anthem of a Country!
